Kimberly Morrow, a CCVI alum, is teaching a braille course at Johnson County Community College (JCCC) this coming fall. As explained in a recent CCVI Parent Group newsletter:
This course would be ideal for parent and other friends and family members of blind children. The goal is for parents to learn enough braille to communicate simple messages to their youngsters and to help with simple homework assignments..
The class will run from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday mornings from Saturday, September 24 through Saturday, November 12, 2011. To enroll, you can call registration (913) 469-2323, from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. Monday through Friday after Tuesday, July 5, 2011 (enrollment for Fall semester doesn’t start until July). The fee for the class is $99.
If the face-to-face class is outside of your price range or doesn’t fit your schedule, keep in mind that the Hadley School for the Blind also offers braille courses by correspondence to the parents and family of blind and visually-impaired children free of charge.
